The IBSS Faculty
At Smart Start, we are deeply committed to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels a sense of belonging and security. We prioritise the safety, well-being, and self-esteem of our young students, understanding that they thrive when they feel valued and supported.
Central to our approach, is a strong emphasis on pastoral care, with a dedicated Coordinator, School Counsellors and homeroom teachers available to ensure the social and emotional welfare of our students. We implement a range of initiatives and programmes, including yoga sessions, sports activities and health-oriented activities, to promote the holistic well-being of our young learners.
Through these tailored programmes, we cultivate a positive and supportive atmosphere that encourages healthy personal development in children under 7. By fostering a sense of connectedness, resilience, and self-confidence, we empower our students to navigate their early years with strength and positivity.
Our comprehensive approach to well-being extends not only to the students but also to their families. We provide effective strategies, recommendations, and resources to support the social and emotional needs of both children and their guardians. By implementing policies, procedures, and guidelines founded on pastoral care, we strive to create a nurturing and empowering environment where all our young learners can grow, thrive, and reach their full potential.
We ensure that our students are not only safe but they actually feel safe, are well-informed about their rights, and actively participate in creating a secure environment.
We actively engage with families, guardians, the community and all stake holders to create a collaborative network that supports the well-being and safety of our students.
The IBSS promotes equality at the same time respects diversity by ensuring that every student is treated fairly and with respect, regardless of background or identity.
Children and educators in the ELC practice meditation and mindfulness every day. Together we take this daily opportunity to pause, tune in, and notice the world around us. Our daily mindful ritual brings a gentle moment of calm and allows us to tune into ourselves and our learning environment.
Through explicit and implicit curriculum development, our Primary students engage in activities that promote the principles of authentic happiness, the development and use of one’s character strengths and the learning of skills to enhance one’s level of resiliency.
Arguably, the greatest example of Positive Education is the Timbertop programme. In many ways, Timbertop is one of the most powerful and directly applicable experience of the six associated domains that are central to the promotion of human flourishing.
In Year 7 Navigate, there is an emphasis on belonging – with ourselves, with each other and with the wider world. In Year 8 Navigate, there is an emphasis on developing the strengths and capabilities which will assist a successful transition to Timbertop.
Pathways supports students as they navigate purposeful choices through the Senior School and beyond.
Students participate in a range of group learning experiences that focus on skills for learning, personal wellbeing, career and tertiary pathways and service.
